What is Paguflex®
A flexible shaft coupling shaped like a figure-eight — for a reason
The Paguflex® is a double loop flexible shaft coupling made from high-performance technical polyurethane. Its distinctive double-loop (figure-eight) geometry is not decorative — it is the engineering principle that allows the coupling to absorb misalignment in all three axes while transmitting torque smoothly and without any backlash.
Where a rigid metal coupling would transmit vibration, force misalignment, and eventually damage bearings or encoders, a Paguflex® absorbs all of this silently — protecting your connected equipment and extending its service life.
It is the natural evolution of the classic Paguag elastic joint, refined over decades into the precision component it is today.

Zero backlash
The polyurethane loop transmits torque in both directions with no play — critical for encoder feedback and position-control applications where any backlash introduces measurement error.
Triple misalignment compensation
Compensates radial, axial and angular misalignment simultaneously — unlike bellows or disc couplings which handle only one or two axes effectively.
Vibration and shock absorption
The elastic element damps vibration and absorbs shock loads, reducing noise and protecting connected equipment from mechanical stress that metal couplings pass straight through.
Fully maintenance-free
No lubrication, no adjustment, no wear parts. Once installed, a Paguflex® runs indefinitely under normal operating conditions — reducing total cost of ownership significantly.
Electrically non-conductive
Polyurethane does not conduct electricity. This eliminates stray currents between coupled shafts — important in variable-frequency drive systems and sensitive instrumentation.
Low inertia
Aluminium-hub versions (blue) weigh significantly less than equivalent steel couplings — reducing rotational inertia and improving dynamic response in high-speed applications.

Materials and construction
Each Paguflex® flexible shaft coupling consists of two metal attachment hubs and one elastomer loop element. The combination of materials is selected to match the application environment.
Yellow or White — Galvanised Steel Hubs + Polyurethane Loop
The standard Paguflex® flexible shaft coupling range features galvanised steel hubs and a technical polyurethane (PUR) loop element. Yellow and white variants differ only in the colour of the available polyurethane — the mechanical properties and performance are identical. Suited for general industrial, marine and outdoor applications. Covers the full Paguflex® 10, 20, 30 range.
Loop element: high-performance thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer — combining rubber-like flexibility with engineering-plastic durability. Operating temperature: −40°C to +120°C. RoHS compliant.
Blue — Anodised Aluminium Hubs
Lightweight version for high speeds and low inertia. Anodised aluminium hubs reduce the flexible shaft coupling weight significantly, improving dynamic response in precision servo and encoder applications. Preferred for connections requiring minimum rotational inertia and fast acceleration. Available across selected Paguflex® sizes.
Orange — Steel Hubs + Hytrel® Loop (Paguflex® 40)
The orange Paguflex® 40 uses a loop element made from Hytrel®, the thermoplastic elastomer (TEEE) by DuPont. Hytrel® delivers superior dynamic stiffness and outstanding reverse-bend fatigue resistance compared to standard polyurethane. It broadens the operational temperature range and enhances chemical resistance, ensuring stable behaviour even under frequent reversals or rapid load cycles — making it the ideal choice for demanding high-cycle industrial applications.

What is an encoder coupling?
An encoder coupling connects the shaft of a rotary encoder to the shaft of a motor or drive. The coupling must transmit rotation precisely — without backlash — while absorbing any small misalignment between the two shafts.
If the coupling has backlash, the encoder reads a slightly different position than where the motor shaft actually is — creating feedback errors that degrade motion control performance.
